Gaultois, Newfoundland

I grew up in the tiny outport town of Gaultois, Newfoundland and even though I haven't lived there for almost 30 years I still hold the place close to my heart. Last year my parents decided to give up the family home in gaultois and make their move to St. John's a permanent one. Not wanting to see the family home sold or even worst fall into disrepair, my wife and I decided to try and keep the house for ourselves as a vacation home. To help cover the cost of this expense we decided to rent the home during the summer months to the adventurous traveller, their friends and families. The house is over 100 years old and is a land mark in the community and Gaultois itself is an outdoor lovers dream. The community is located on an island on the south coast of Newfoundland and offers the visitor spectacular scenery, great hiking trails and a sheltered narrow passage which is ideal for kayaking. Whales frequent the bay during the early months of summer and it is not unusual to look out through the harbour and see the whales. I always say that as I get close to Gaultois for my visits you can feel the stresses of the daily grind slipping away and when you arrive a peaceful easy feeling overcomes you (to quote a song).
